Hair extensions are magical things. They can give you the hair of your dreams in a matter of minutes!

Once you have discovered the perfect hair extensions for your hair type, you would do anything to make it last as long as possible. And rightly so!

Through constant use, you can begin to notice wear. To help you combat and prevent this issue, we have compiled a few hair care tips that will help increase the lifespan of your hair extensions.

Store your hair extensions in a box

The best way to store your hair extensions is in a box. Typically, when buying your hair extensions, they will come in a box. This box not only serves as packaging, but doubles as protective storage.

After removing your hair extensions, it is important to brush them thoroughly before storing them away to prolong their lifespan.

Brush your hair extensions from the bottom up to ensure the least amount of damage possible.

Keep a brush with you at all times

Throughout the day, your own hair and your hair extensions rub together. This friction causes your hair to tangle.

The more you let your hair tangle, the rougher you will have to treat it to get those tangles out.

By keeping a brush in your purse, you will be able to quickly comb through your hair before your hair gets too tangled. This will increase its lifespan by months.

Do not sleep with your hair extensions in

For those with clip in hair extensions, it’s important to remove them before going to bed. Tossing and turning with your hair extensions in will only cause more friction, leading to those hard to brush out tangles.

By removing and brushing your hair extensions before you go to bed, you will not only save time in the morning, but it will also help you keep your hair extensions as healthy as possible.

Do not swim or shower with your hair extensions in

Getting your hair extensions wet while still in your hair can be very problematic. Your hair can mix in with the hair extensions, making it extremely difficult and painful to remove.

Even with 100% human hair extensions, you can wash your hair, but it’s important that you wash it separate from your own hair. This will prevent tangling, ensure a better overall wash and help prolong their lifespan.

Wash and use a deep conditioning treatment

To help keep your current hair extensions in their best condition, or to restore old hair extensions, try using a deep conditioning treatment when you wash your hair.

Wash your hair extensions with a non-abrasive shampoo. After fully rinsing out the shampoo, apply a deep conditioning treatment to the ends of your hair extensions and let it sit overnight. Wash it out in the morning and let them air dry.

This will leave your hair silky smooth and healthy.
